From 11 to 15 September, a delegation from Ordre de Malte France visited Togo to inaugurate the new Mother and Child Unit (POME) at Elavagnon Hospital.

Eric Deroo, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to the Togolese Republic, accompanied the delegation throughout the mission, underscoring the strong partnership between the Order and the Togolese authorities in the health sector.

The official inauguration took place on 12 September, following a Mass held in the hospital’s newly renovated chapel. The new building was blessed by the Bishop of Atakpamé, and the ribbon was cut by Professor Tchin Darré, Minister of Health, in the presence of the Governor of the Plateaux region, the Mayor of Elavagnon, local and traditional authorities, and Augustin Favereau, Ambassador of France.

The new Mother and Child Unit represents a major step forward for healthcare in Togo. By bringing together gynecology-obstetrics, pediatrics, and neonatology services, it offers comprehensive and continuous care for mothers and children. This achievement reflects the Sovereign Order of Malta’s long-standing commitment to improving maternal and child health.

The following day, Ambassador Eric Deroo joined the team during the deployment of the hospital’s mobile clinic in the village of Ataké. This initiative, supported by the Order, brings healthcare closer to rural communities and plays a crucial role in disease prevention and maternal and child follow-up.

Through his active participation in this mission, the Ambassador of the Order of Malta to Togo reaffirmed the humanitarian and diplomatic commitment of the Sovereign Order of Malta to serving the most vulnerable populations in Togo.
